Description: Corridor organizations manage critical assets that cross community boundaries, and they have a unique set of needs as well as a broad range of characteristics. This project developed support materials for practitioners at corridor agencies, providing information on current and noteworthy practices in order to inform performance management decisions. The report informs practitioners of relevant practices and tools, and their potential applications.

Objectives: This research aims to develop performance management practices for corridor planning, in order to comply with MAP-21 requirements and prepare for future regulatory requirements. The project developed a maturity model, in which agencies can evaluate their current practices and receive guidance specific to their needs and corridor characteristics. Following the implementation of the model, an implementation plan was created to facilitate use of the tool and equip practitioners with effective performance management practices.

Findings: The maturity model developed by this research project is an effective self-assessment tool for corridor management professionals. In combination with an understanding of best practices for performance management, an assessment of an agency’s current practices can serve to guide development of new measures and integration of new performance management strategies.

Recommendations: This report encourages practitioners to assess the current needs of their agency, and consider areas of improvement for their corridor transportation performance management practices. Use of the maturity model can guide planners with recommendations specific to their agency, and the many aspects of performance management that contribute to the maturity of their practice.
