Description: In this report, the Tennessee Region’s Roundtable Network details regional initiatives in Tennessee exhibiting best practices in various aspects of planning, including leadership, collaborations and partnerships, and innovative projects. Projects are grouped within the three regions of Tennessee: the West, East, and Middle. The practices featured are examples of implementation of Tennessee’s Quality Communities objectives.

Objectives: The objective of this research is to contribute to a growing body of knowledge of best practices for advancing Tennessee’s Quality Communities objectives. The program aims to support growth and development throughout the state, fostering strong leadership and a strong economy. The case studies included in this report are examples of communities meeting these goals, and can serve to inform practices and development in other communities. The case studies cover a broad range of topics, among them rural economic development, complete streets, sustainable tourism, community health, and corridor and neighborhood development.

Findings: Communities across the state of Tennessee are adopting and developing innovative practices in order to meet statewide goals. Stakeholders, planners, and policy makers at all levels contribute to effective transportation planning that advances community development. The case studies included in this report offer insights into implementation of Quality Communities initiatives.

Recommendations: Implementation of Quality Communities objectives can have economic benefits and many positive impacts on a community. The goal is for these objectives to be implemented across the state of Tennessee. Initiatives such as those presented in these case studies can help communities to advance their current practice.
