Description: Bicycles are beneficial to individuals in communities as well as the environment and economy of a community. However, such was not considered before when transportation infrastructure was built, but a lot of communities find it a growing priority to start building infrastructure to support bicyclists now. To create framework that is effective for such new infrastructure, there is a need for data and studies on bicyclists, traffic volume, and other things that bicyclists consider when choosing a route to travel.
Objectives: The big objective of this research paper is to lay the foundations for data collection to later do a larger scale case study on the factors (sometimes in the community) that influence bicyclists in choosing their route- specifically to see the effect of geographic location and amount of resources allocated on a local level.
Findings: With a two-stage model test, the paper found that incorporating different factors such as more variety of observed data counts of the current infrastructure and considering built environment, and different factors during different tests alter results. Pointing out that these inconsistencies can be reduced by considering more things that are relevant to the results.
Recommendations: This research paper recommends that in the future, there be more tests that include a more varied geographical landscape as well as built surroundings and infrastructure. The paper also recommends that there be more data on observations of the infrastructure and surrounding, marking the parameters of the routes and studies, and consider factors that affect motorized vehicles in addition to bicycles.
